Lesson Plans

These lesson plans model ways of using works of art to encourage elementary and middle school students to investigate connections between art and social studies. The lesson plans may be used to generate ideas for integrated instruction or as stand-alone activities that reinforce goals and objectives for each content area. The lesson plans are adaptable to varying amounts of time and depth of instruction.

Investigate the development of a theme, such as "The Tobacco Monologues." Encourage inquiry-based discussion of the works of art in the lessons. Make correlations to state or national standards for art and social studies. Develop a North Carolina art and social studies unit based on an extension activity.
