Students design an original solution to a genuine need that can be identified in any community. Their process involves group teamwork to improve water quality by designing a pond as a work of land art. Turn your students' creativity loose in solving a genuine need. Critical and creative thinking skills involve art, science, language arts, and other disciplines.

This state agency is a division of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. Their mission is to make North Carolina a better state through the arts. Their Web site offers online resources, such as Arts in Education Issues and Topics (topics for education with a section on notable North Carolina and national programs), Arts in Education Grants (role of the Council in providing support to schools and nonprofit organizations to strengthen the use of the arts in pre K– 12 settings), and Resources and Links (active links to the major arts education Web sites, state and national arts education associations and advocacy resources).

| Elementary Park Self-Guide

"Environmental Investigators" is a self-guide for elementary school students to use in the Museum Park. It presents a sampling of art and nature in the Museum Park and suggests art and science activities to use during a visit and in the classroom.

| Arts North Carolina

This independent organization provides programs and services designed to promote and strengthen the arts industry of North Carolina. Staff and Board also administer the work of Arts Advocates of North Carolina, a 501 (c) (4) non-profit organization, whose primary function is to provide advocacy leadership and training in public funding and policy affecting the arts. Their Web site offers links to arts organizations, professional consulting services, a listserv for arts professionals, communications tools for supporting the arts, and other services.

| Children's Performance Series

One Saturday a month, fall through spring, the Children's Performance Series offers an engaging program selected from puppetry, music, storytelling, dance or drama. Short films, including some based on award-winning children's literature, are also featured on occasional Saturday mornings.
