MATISSE MADNESS:
Museum open 32 hours!
During the last weekend of Matisse, Picasso and the School of Paris, the
NCMA stays open 32 hours straight—from 9 A.M., Sat., Jan. 15, until
5 P.M., Sun., Jan. 16.
Late Nights
Fridays, Nov. 26, 2004, and Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, 2005
Thursdays, Jan. 6 and Jan. 13, 2005
Museum open until 9 p.m. $6 Exhibition admission offered 59 p.m. Must purchase tickets at the Museum Box Office day of event.
Blue Ridge will be open for dinner at 5:30 p.m. on the following Late
Night events during Matisse, Picasso and the
School of Paris:

Note: Docents will be available to answer questions
in the galleries if high exhibition attendance prevents the offering
of guided tours.
- Guided tours for the Matisse, Picasso
exhibition are completely booked and unavailable. Due to the
high level of public interest we no longer have the space to accommodate
tour requests. Group tickets may still be purchased through the Museum
box office.

Collection Connection
Families visiting during the Matisse, Picasso
exhibition can drop by the Collection Connection for a variety of quick
experiences, from trying on a beret to playing with Matisse’s colors
in collage.

Mingling with the Masters

Mingle with the masters of avant-garde art at the Contemporaries’
celebration of Matisse, Picasso and the School
of Paris. Enjoy cocktails, dinner and the exhibition, with a special
lecture by curator David Steel. Invitations will be mailed to Contemporaries.

The Ladies Who Loved Matisse (60 min.)
Actor Michael Palin of Monty Python and A Fish Called
Wanda explored his love of art by hosting the film Michael
Palin and the Ladies Who Loved Matisse. The documentary, produced
for the BBC, tells the story of the famed Cone sisters. Palin traces
the Cones’ lives in Baltimore, North Carolina, Paris, Nice and
Florence. Shown continuously in the Video Theater during the Matisse,
Picasso exhibition.

Documentary

Picasso exhibition with Museum Director Larry Wheeler, curator

- Hands-on, exhibition-related children’s activities are available
daily in the Museum’s Collection Connection.
- For teachers, Matisse, Picasso and the School of
Paris educational materials will be available for loan and on-line
in late summer 2004. On-line lesson plans
featuring works of art from the exhibition will be found on the exhibition
Web page. Lesson plans include object and artist information and classroom
activity ideas for elementary, middle and high schools that integrate
the visual arts into all areas of the North Carolina Standard Course
